Seeing a psychiatrist in Wollongong

Care at Helios Psych is provided by two clinicians with distinct, complementary roles.

Dr Dhanushka De Silva is a psychiatrist - a medical doctor who has specialised in mental health. She provides assessment, diagnosis, and medication management for adults, with a special interest in women's mental health and the perinatal period.

Jeremy Maksour is a registered psychologist. He provides structured talking therapy for adults working through stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties, from a psychodynamic perspective. Psychologists do not prescribe medication.

Many people see just one clinician; some see both, with each focusing on a different part of their care. You can read more about both clinicians and how we work on our home page.

Start with your GP. To see the psychiatrist with a Medicare rebate you need a valid GP referral, which lasts 12 months. To see the psychologist with a rebate you need a GP referral together with a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Your referral can come from any GP or doctor - you do not need to be an existing patient of Helios Medical Rooms, though the GPs there are one option if you don't have a regular doctor.
